2025 Annual Report

The artwork that is featured on the pages of the 2025 Ditikeni Annual Report has been inspired by three hand-crafted copper wire pots, by Sizwe Umoya, which have been added to the Ditikeni art collection. The collection reflects each year’s annual report theme and features work by local artists.

Sizwe Umoya is a collective of five women weavers based in the Waaihoek area of northern KwaZulu-Natal. They have adapted the traditional practice of grass weaving – an ancient craft rooted in local heritage – to the creation of decorative items using copper wire. Their work includes intricately woven baskets, eggs, tea light holders and traditional beer pots, known as nkhamba. Each piece is carefully hand crafted.

In recent years, interest in this craft among younger generations has declined significantly, making Sizwe Umoya one of the few remaining groups in the region to continue this cultural tradition.
